I recently started a new position as an award booker with Juicy Miles. I book all kinds of awards, and am marketed as the SkyTeam expert on the team. The owner, Adam, who also writes the Point Me to the Plane blog on boardingarea.com and asked me to write about my experience with a recent client’s Delta RTW award.

Wall Street Journal article on First Class for “cheap”

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on December 21, 2012 by getgowing

The WSJ put out an article today (HERE) glazing over how travel hackers travel lavishly for cents on the dollar.  Its an ok article, but if you’re in this game as a purely leisure traveler paying everything out of pocket, and spending upwards of $7,000 to achieve top tier status on an airline, you’re either doing it wrong or just super inefficient.  All this is moot anyway since the world is ending in less than 8 hours from now.

Free bus travel on Megabus!

Megabus, which is growing in popularity around the US, has growing service all over the country.  Along with competitive fares, they also offer $1 fares on every bus.  I’ve only taken Megabus once, but I assume only a couple seats, if not only one, are allocated for $1.  Well they just started a promotion yesterday giving away 200,000 seats on most of their network in North America to try their service.  Some of their terms:

  • for travel between January 9, 2013 to February 28, 2013
  • must use promo code: TRYMEGABUS

For the full terms go to their 200,000 Free Seat webpage.

Free airline ticket giveaway!

Posted in Uncategorized on September 7, 2012 by getgowing

I have a buy one get one free companion certificate that is expiring soon which I am not using, so I am giving it away to a reader.  Here is the fine print:

  • It is good for certain economy OR FIRST CLASS tickets
  • The primary ticket earns mileage, the companion ticket does not
  • Both people must travel the same itineraries
  • Only good for travel in the lower 48 states
  • Must be on Delta Airlines
  • Not eligible for upgrades (if not purchasing a First Class ticket)
  • Travel must be completed by 9/30/2012
  • Ticket must be purchased on my credit card, so if I don’t know you personally, I need the money up front.

If this is something you, or somebody you know, can use, please contact me either email via getgowing at gmail dot com, or by leaving a comment on this post.  If leaving a comment, don’t forget to leave a reply email address.

I will even give away two “Have One on Us” alcoholic drink or non-perishable food vouchers to whoever takes advantage of this giveaway.

TRIPLE Medallion Qualification Miles promotion RDU-LGA/BOS on Delta

Posted in Uncategorized on November 13, 2011 by getgowing

If you are looking for a way to get to the next Medallion status tier on Delta, they are offering a new promotion for triple MQMs on paid first class nonstop flights originating in Raleigh-Durham to either NYC La Guardia or Boston.   Granted, its for paid first class, and a quick search yielded about $440 round-trip to Boston.  That would yield about 4,200 MQMs roundtrip for this flights.

Based on round-trip:

  • Base flight miles – 1224
  • Class of Service bonus miles – 612
  • 3x promotion miles – 2448

TOTAL = 4,284

Not that great of a return on investment for a mileage run, but is definitely better than nothing.

It’s also a quick promotion.  All travel needs to be completed by December 15, 2011.

Here’s the link to the promotion registration page.

Up in the Air, almost.

I’m in the Tokyo Narita Airport, at the Terminal #1 Satellite #1 Delta Sky Club.  This lounge is spectacular, considering the quality of EVERY other Delta lounge in the US.  It can actually hold its own among other worldwide business class lounges.  Anyway, more posts will be coming soon.  For now, on my way to Frankfurt & Basel, Switzerland.

  • Frankfurt, Germany
  • Freiburg, Germany
  • Munich, Germany
  • Strassbourg, France
  • Salzburg, Austria
  • Amsterdam, The Netherlands

I get to knock out another country off the list on this trip (France).  Can’t wait!
